A computer is an electronic device, which can accept data and instructions process them according to the instructions to produce desire results. Computer performs the following operations while processing the data:

Application of computer:

A) Police:

The record-keeping task of police work was long handled by using a diversity of manual systems. Quick nationwide or international utilization of records and files was impossible. Advances in computer networking permit the linking of many police and investigate database and make possible development of national criminal investigation system. Interpol is a national criminal investigation network that coordinates the exchange of criminal intelligence to aid police agencies in searching for fugitives or missing person or property.

B) Science and Technology:

Computers are now increasingly employed to improve scientific and technological advancements. They are used in design and operation of man-made satellite, space exploration vehicles, and rockets training astronauts.

C) Electronic Banking:

The banking business has been revolutionized by computer technology. Deposits and withdrawals are instantly logged into a computer's account, which is perhaps stored on a remote computer. Networking allows individuals to obtain cash instantly and almost worldwide by simply stepping up to an automated teller machine. (ATM) & providing proper card and personal identification number.

D) Hospital:

it is used in hospital in keeping records of patient's case corresponding medication, monitoring heartbeat pulse, blood pressure and others such as vital human features through computerized devices such as ECG monitors & computer Axial Tomography (CAT) scanner.

E) Traffic control:

The traffic control devices assist the driver in making safe, efficient, consistent decisions. Traffic signal controllers are electronic devices located at intersections that control the sequence of the lights. Along with computers communication equipment and detectors to count and measure traffic, the controllers are frequently grouped together to control a large number of traffic signals, either at intersections motorways.

F) Education:

Computers have become increasingly important in education not only as a field of study but also as reference and teaching aids. Teachers are using computers to organize and prepare course material; children are being taught to use computers at early age. In education field, computer can be used for multimedia presentation.

G) Communication:

Computers are used for e-mail and internet, E-mail is used for sending & receiving information or messages through electronic media.
